Well here we are FINALLY with some decent weather and a wonderful start to the 2005 show season. It was looking pretty "ify" for awhile there with all the wind and rain but for today, at least, the sun is shining the birds are singing and the sky is a beautiful shade of blue. Ahhhh…. Spring.
The results from the Reno Chapter show at UNR are now available at http://www.snc-cds.com/showitems/times-results/may2105results.html
To improve communications with the group we have started an E-Mail list on Yahoo. This will minimize the problems we have been having with returned and blocked messages. If you haven't joined the list yet you can join by either sending a blank e-mail to snc-cds-subscribe@yahoogroups.com or visit the SNC-CDS Yahoo Group Home Page and click on the Join button.
After you join the Yahoo Group, messages will be sent to your e-mail address just like they are now - but you must join the group first. All future Newsletters, Announcements (ride times, scores etc.) will be e-mailed to you via the group. If you send a message to the group (snc-cds@yahoogroups.com) the message will automatically be forwarded to the entire group. If you reply to a message from the group, the reply will also be sent to everyone in the group. If you wish replies to only go to a certain person make sure you have the correct e-mail address. It's also a good idea to include your name and e-mail address at the end of your message so everyone knows who wrote the message.
When you join the list you will have an option of creating a new e-mail address on Yahoo. You don't need to do this, unless you want to. You can continue to receive messages from SNC-CDS at the same e-mail address that you have now. You may want to add the snc-cds@yahoogroups.com address to your address book so your Spam filter wont block messages from the group.
If you have problems signing up or questions about the Yahoo group feel free to contact us at snc-cds@charter.net.
The April/May show was completely full and a success. Despite a little bit of wind, the weather cooperated and it was warm.
There isn't enough thank you's we can give to Lou and Mary Anne Christensen for managing this show. A 2-day show requires a tremendous amount of time and energy to manage and they truly did a wonderful job. If you see them, please give them a thank you for all their hard work.
The Spring Show at Franktown Meadows appears to have been successful. The show was fully subscribed with 45 riders and 123 rides over the two days. It was great to have our local riders as well as those from far flung Bishop, Winnemucca, and Susanville.
Thanks go to SNC-CDS officers for their efforts toward the show: Susan Ward - Chairperson and scribe, Joan Wright - ex-officio, Cindy Hoonhout, Director of Treasury and scribe, Steve and Michele Ting - Directors of Communication.
A special thanks goes to Dan and Karla Viola of the Kleaning Connection and Ken Cliff of Sierra Feed for the junior ribbons and junior prizes. It is nice to have this extra support so that we can reward the efforts of our junior riders.
Finally the biggest and specialist (sic) go to volunteers who helped throughout the weekend. Sue Dunt - scribe, Lindsey Sanford - ring steward, Kerin Rowe - scribe, Julie Brown - scribe, Patricia Hicksted - scorer/runner, Tamara Peterson - scorer/runner, Holly McGee - ring steward, Jen Smith - ring steward, Kelli Kuhn and Kate Ingram (UNR Biology Dept. Grad Students) ring stewards, Erica Ward - scorer/runner, and Ciara Viola - tack sale. Thanks for the help it was a better show for your efforts.
Finally we did issue some show bucks. Volunteers and riders received a total of $200.00 to be used for future SNC shows.
The next local show is the Franktown Meadows June Dressage Classic. This show is a USEF, USDF, CDS recognized show. It is NOT an SNC show. The show is 2 days, June 11th and 12th and managed by Barbara Boatman. The closing date for the show is June 1st. Prize lists and entry forms are available on the SNC web site under show info
Just a reminder, SNC Show Bucks cannot be used towards the June show as it is not an SNC show.
The next chapter-sponsored clinic will be held in the indoor arena at Franktown Meadows Equestrian Center on June 4 and 5, 2005 (Saturday and Sunday). The clinic will be limited to 8 mounted riders, who will each ride both days. The ride schedule is listed below:
Chapter members are welcome to audit at no charge. If you've never attended a musical freestyle clinic before, you can be sure it is very educational and helpful from an auditor's standpoint as well, even if you're not ready to work on a freestyle yourself at this point. What a great way to have fun with your horse - word has it they like the music, too!
The final 2005 chapter-sponsored clinic will tentatively be held some time in the fall, after Championships. The instructor and subject of the next clinic has not yet been decided, so now is the time to send your suggestions to Jennifer. All ideas are welcome. This is your chapter, and we want to know how you think we should spend our money on education. Remember, anyone in demand books up quickly, so if you have a thought to share, don't wait! If we can't schedule someone this year, maybe we can line them up for 2006...
The Chapter Sponsored Junior Clinic with Judge Donna Richardson has filled. The clinic will be held at Equest Training Center July 13th and 14th. There will be a BBQ the first night at Victoria Cliff's house. Lou and Mary Anne Christensen will be providing the meat. The rest of the BBQ will be pot luck style. If you are planning to attend, please bring a side dish (salad, veggies, appetizers, etc), dessert or beverage. We will try to have a sign up sheet for "dishes" closer to the clinic.
Equest Training Center is located at 805 Washoe Dr. in Washoe Valley.
Auditing is FREE and strongly encouraged!
The following is the list of riders participating in the Junior Clinic. The ride schedule will be announced later.
The 2004 Awards dinner was held at Carolyn's house on Sunday, May 22nd. Time to Eat Catering served wonderful appetizers and entrée's and everyone had a wonderful time. The view from her house is spectacular - wow! Thank you so much to Carolyn for organizing and hosting the event!
The 2004 Sierra Nevada Chapter Awards follow: (Awards included gift certificates to Sierra Feed and Dressage Extensions both of whom have supported the chapter graciously).

Congratulations Everyone!!!!
As you may have noticed, we attempted to take some photos on the Saturday portion of the Spring show. It was a little tricky with both of us riding but we thought it might be fun for members after the show.
We hope to continue to take photographs at the shows when we are both off and able. Steve is the photographer of the two of us so I apologize for any "funky" pictures from the Spring show… they were mine (smile).
Steve is endeavoring to branch out with the photography and hopes to be able to take at least some pictures at each of the shows, work permitting. He will be taking pictures at the June show on Saturday only. The pictures will be posted to the web site and we will also send out a notice when they are up so folks can take a look.
If you would like to purchase any of the photos, this can be done on Smugmug, the host site for the pictures. You may notice a price increase for photos from the Spring show. This is because we've had to purchase a different package for the pictures and will also help to cover some of our expenses.
