Happy Fall Everyone!

What a beautiful time of year! The days are shorter, the weather is cooler, trees are changing colors, and the end of the 2004 show season is upon us. The Great American Insurance Group USDF Region 7 Championships and CDS Championship show are October 7-10th at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, in Burbank. Congratulations and good luck to all our members who have qualified and will be attending! We hope to hear back how everyone did so we can brag about all of you in the next newsletter!

Fall marks the beginning of a new show season. Scores earned at shows from now on will count towards the 2005 show season. And the great news is that the 2005 Championship show will be held at Rancho Murieta!

Many riders start early on scores for next year's Championship Show. The last local show of the year… the Annual Pumpkin Roll Dressage Show, provides one of the first opportunities for members to earn scores for the 2005 season. The Pumpkin Roll will be held at Clover Leaf Equestrian Center on Halloween, October 31, 2004. This is a Reno Chapter show, CDS recognized, and a fun and fabulous event!

IMPORTANT PUMPKIN ROLL INFORMATION - BE SURE TO READ!!!!

Entry forms and prize lists are available on the web site and at the English Shoppe. Please be aware that entry forms will NOT be mailed out for this show!!! If you need an entry form and prize list mailed to you for the show, please contact Phyllis Schmidt directly at 853-6007.

Pumpkin Roll Junior Member Benefit Tack Sale and Concessions

There will be a tack sale to benefit the Junior Membership of SNC at the Pumpkin Roll show October 31st. We are looking for tack items for donation to the chapter. If you have an item(s) to donate please contact the Christensens at 972-5408. The junior members will also be hosting a concession stand at the show for hungry and thirsty competitors and their helpers… bring your appetites!

September Chapter Meeting Highlights

Because there were so many important items covered in the September meeting, we thought we should include the highlights in the newsletter. The Board of Directors would like to hear input from members as well so if you would like to comment please send us an email and we will forward it to all board members for discussion or better yet… come to the October meeting - everyone is welcome!

Christmas Party
The December meeting will also be a chapter Christmas Party and potluck. The meeting will be held on Monday December 13th at 6:30pm at Susan Ward's house. Everyone is invited to attend!

2005 Awards Dinner
The tentative date for the 2005 SNC Awards dinner is Saturday March 26th, 2005. Carolyn Graebener graciously offered to host the awards dinner at her house and the club will hire a catering service for food and drinks. As per tradition there will be a silent auction with dinner with proceeds going to the club. At the meeting, there was some discussion about bringing back the "brown bag" auction from previous awards dinners. In this type of auction, everyone brings a horsey-type item in a brown paper bag and the bags are auctioned off. We could also have a combined auction. There are still many details to be ironed out and we will be keeping everyone updated in future newsletters!

Annual Meeting and Chapter Basket
Every year the various chapters of CDS take baskets of goodies to be presented and auctioned off at the Annual Meeting. Cindy Hoonhout has volunteered to be the Sierra Nevada Chapter representative at the CDS Annual Meeting on January 28 - 30, 2005 at the LA Equestrian Center in Burbank, CA. Thank you Cindy!!!!

"Dressage in Nevada"
Donations are needed for our chapter basket: This year we are looking for things related to Dressage in Nevada and most especially our area. Donation ideas include anything horse related: tack, stationary, candles, house wares, books, calendars etc and anything Nevada related: Pictures of our area, gifts relating to Tahoe or the mountains, certificates to attractions in our area, wine or locally made food items or gift items, gift certificates to local businesses and so on. Use your imagination! Any items, no matter how small... or how large... will be welcomed!!

2005 Board Of Directors
Its that time again!!! We are looking for nominees or volunteers for the following positions. If you are interested, or know of someone who is, please let us know! To be eligible for office the nominee must be a CDS member in good standing. Voting of officers occurs by show of hands at the November meeting. For a more detailed description of positions, please check out our Chapter By-Laws link under Chapter info on the web site.

Dressage in the Sierra 2005
This year Dressage in the Sierra was much smaller than in previous years. This was due, in part, to the Junior Championship show being held on the same dates as Dressage in the Sierra. Not only did this mean that our junior members could not attend Dressage in the Sierra but many of their instructors could not either. Unfortunately, the same will be true in 2005. *** For members that don't know, the scheduling of this particular show is extremely difficult as our available dates with Reno Livestock Events Center are very limited.

At the September meeting we debated a long time whether or not to have Dressage in the Sierra in 2005. This was partly because we will have the same schedule conflict next year and also because the show lost money this year.

In the end, it was decided that this is a great show for the chapter and that we will have Dressage in the Sierra as scheduled in 2005. It was also agreed that if show entries are down again next year that we would discontinue this show and make some changes to our show calendar in the future.

It was the hope of all that the show will go on (as they say) and that entries will pick up again next year. The board also agreed that for next year's show we will form committees to help with task management. We're off to a good start… we've already had several volunteers!

September show

The September show only had a few scratched entries despite the weather. It was a bitter cold morning that turned into a cold and windy afternoon. The show went without a hitch (other than the weather).

Thanks so much to Lou and Mary Anne Christensen for managing the show and to all the volunteers who stayed and helped out throughout the day! Lets hope the next show is a little warmer and a little less windy!
